2008 Accounting Intern Position Description

Department: Finance

Intern Supervisor: Heather Moore

Length of Internship: Internships are for 10 - 13 weeks beginning June 9, 2008;.

Proposed Intern Schedule: Schedule is Monday - Friday 9 AM - 5 PM, with varied hours for festival weekends.

Scope: Assist in day-to-day finance operations to include counting and reconciling gate and store cash receipts, data entry for accounts payable and cash receipts, and administrative support. Assist VP of Finance in preparation and documentation for annual audit.

Intern Goals and Responsibilities: Goal is to provide an introduction to routine accounting functions. Provide support to Finance department to expeditiously process cash receipts and accounts payable. Assist with annual audit preparation as needed.

  • Reconciliation of cash receipts from admissions and store

  • Data entry of accounts payable

  • Data entry of cash receipts

  • Replenish stock of office supplies

  • Assist with preparation of annual audit

Requirements: Intern will be a college student pursuing a degree in accounting, business administration or a similar field. Strong work ethic necessary, must be honest, dependable, accurate and use discretion. Experience in all Microsoft applications, with a proficiency in Excel required.

Applications are due by close of business Friday, February 28, 2008.
Notice of acceptance for intern positions will be made by Friday, March 21, 2008.

  1. A cover letter indicating the internship for which you are applying.

  2. A statement of no more than 500 words (two typewritten pages, double-spaced), which explains how the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum internship fits with your background and career goals. Include the reasons for your choice of specific departments or programs for an internship. Also describe what you hope to achieve from the experience and what you believe you can contribute.

  3. Two letters of recommendation.

  4. Official copies of you most recent transcripts.

  5. Your resume.

  6. A recent accounting project or business plan.

Stipend: Full time interns are paid a stipend of $150 per week. Interns are paid for holidays, but not for time lost due to illness or personal leave. Co-ed, shared housing is provided to interns on an as needed basis; a $50 refundable housing deposit must be made at time of signed intern agreement.
