2008 Advancement Intern Position Description

Department: Advancement

Intern Supervisor: Director of Development

Length of Internship: Internships are for 8 -10 weeks beginning June 9, 2008.

Scope: The development of web tools ie.--an e-mail newsletter, blog, online giving and membership vehicle is critical to growing our fund raising base and to reaching the younger cohort of future donors.

Proposed Intern Schedule: June to August 2008, M-F 9-5

Intern Goals and Responsibilities: This internship position would focus on (1) compiling an e-mail address file from Raiser's Edge, (2) developing an e-mail opt-in/ opt-out tool, (3) building online e-mail registration mechanism on www.cbmm.org; (4) designing the basic components of a web based fundraising campaign including e-mailable membership renewal notices with thank you letter/e-mail return, e-mailable annual fund solicitation notices with thank you letter/e-mail return and a series of e-mail newsletters

Requirements: Intern must be a college student (undergraduate or graduate program) with hands on experience in website design, expertise in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign or Macromedia Flash.

Other Information: At the end of the internship period the intern will have several web based design pieces for his/her portfolio, gained knowledge about the use of web based tools in fundraising and have developed an understanding of fundraising as a career opportunity

Applications are due by close of business Friday, February 28, 2008.
Notice of acceptance for intern positions will be made by Friday, March 21, 2008.

The following additional items are required to complete your application. Do not staple any of the required materials; they can be affixed with a paper clip if necessary.

  1. A cover letter indicating the internship for which you are applying.

  2. A statement of no more than 500 words (two typewritten pages, double-spaced), which explains how the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum internship fits with your background and career goals. Include the reasons for your choice of specific departments or programs for an internship. Also describe what you hope to achieve from the experience and what you believe you can contribute.

  3. Two letters of recommendation.

  4. Official copies of your most recent transcripts.

  5. Your resume.

  6. A recent writing sample.

Stipend: Full time interns are paid a stipend of $150 per week. Interns are paid for holidays, but not for time lost due to illness or personal leave. Co-ed, shared housing is provided to interns on an as needed basis; a $50 refundable housing deposit must be made at time of signed intern agreement.
