About Education Programs
The Museum is an educational resource for teachers, both at our Navy Point campus and in the classroom itself. Our Breene M. Kerr Center for Chesapeake Studies has developed innovative programs for educators for grades three through six to teach their students about the crabbing and oystering industries of the Chesapeake Bay.

We also offer a variety of school, student, and group programs for visiting the Museum, as well as summer classes and camps.

For Educators

Chesapeake's Best Crab Cakes: A Study in Geography, Social Studies, and Economics is a school-based program for third graders which focuses on the relationship between the natural environment and the way people live and work on the Bay.

Oystering on the Chesapeake is a series of multi-disciplinary explorations designed to introduce students in grades 4, 5, and 6 to the economic, environmental, and cultural significance of the oystering industry of the Chesapeake Bay.

• There are a variety of Student Tours & Field Trips available.

For Families

Lighthouse Overnight Program - Did you ever wonder what it's like to live in a lighthouse, standing watch for mariners in trouble? At the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, bring along your sleeping bag and find out in our historic Hooper Strait lighthouse. Register Online

Bay Combers - It's like a treasure hunt. Bay Combers is a half day long program that runs for three weeks during the summer where children not only learn about the bay but experience things for themselves. It is a hands-on learning "club" where kids explore the inside of a skipjack, go nippering for oysters on Waterman's Wharf, go chicken-necking to catch their first crab, and much more.

Saturday Children's Programs - Children and their families are invited to visit the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of every month for storytelling, special tours, and hands-on art activities designed just for them.
