The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum would not be the success it is today without the generous commitment of its dedicated volunteers. Over the past year nearly 300 volunteers logged over 28,839 hours of service. This dedicated group of people put their heart into many facets of the Museum’s operations.

Training

All CBMM volunteers undergo an orientation session and special departmental training. Volunteers also receive instruction through overviews of exhibit content and programs, mission-related enrichment trips, and broad Museum familiarization and safety preparation exercises.

Volunteer Programs: Upcoming Training Sessions
Van Lennep Auditorium
Become a docent volunteer and lead guided tours of the campus, exhibits, and artifacts for adults and children. No prior experience necessary. Each session of the general tour training is mandatory to complete the docent training and graduate the program. Volunteer programs:
Help CBMM tell the story of the Chesapeake’s people, animals, and environment! For docents who have completed the annual General Tour Training, other trainings for our guided school tours, adult groups, and educational hands on programs are available. The two-part trainings offer background and content information, as well as the practical applied instruction in CBMM’s exhibits and campus needed to lead an engaging and educational program. Both sessions are mandatory for each program training to be successfully completed.

Tour and School Program Training, 2014
Each program has a two-day training. Both sessions are necessary to complete the training successfully, and new volunteers must complete the general tour training before attending these program-specific trainings.

Bay Bounty Tour Training: 03/11/14 and 03/13/14, 10 AM- 12:30 PM.
St Michaels Walking Tour Training: 03/12/14 and 03/14/14, 10 AM- 12:30 PM
Bay Discovery Tour Training: 03/18/14 and 03/20/14, 10 AM -12:30 PM
Oystering Legacy Tour Training: 03/25/14 and 03/27/14, 10 AM- 12:30 PM
Crab Cakes Program Training: 04/01/14, 10 AM-2:30 PM

Commitment

Volunteers are an integral part of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum's daily operations. In fact, the Museum began as a volunteer organization, and through its volunteer support the Museum continues to grow.
