Steamboat Building Expansion

Growing to meet increased program demands
Many of our educational programs, lectures, and special events take place in the Van Lennep Auditorium of the Steamboat Building. To accommodate the increasing demand for our programs, we need to expand the auditorium.

Among these programs are our popular lecture series, classes for the Museum’s Academy for Lifelong Learning, programs for the Kerr Center for Chesapeake Studies, and various special events and receptions. Demands on use of this space increase each year.

Expansion plans also call for a 50% increase in seating capacity, a new entrance foyer and, on the east side, more fully taking advantage of the Steamboat Building’s spectacular waterfront setting on Fogg’s Cove.
