CBMM's 20th Annual OysterFest Set for
October 27-28
ST. MICHAELS, MDThe 20th annual OysterFest at the Chesapeake
Bay Maritime Museum is too big to fit into one day! This year, festival-goers
can mark their calendars for October 27 and 28, from 10 a.m. to
4:00 p.m. Oystering and maritime demonstrations, live music, boat
rides, and special children's activities make OysterFest one of
the season's most popular fall destinations. And OysterFest now
takes place in collaboration with the "Fall into St. Michaels"
celebration, making this the premier weekend to visit historic St.
Michaels.
As always at OysterFest, delectable oysters will be available for
seafood lovers to enjoy raw, steamed, or fried. Other food and beverages
will also be available for those who prefer to learn about the oyster
without eating them. Throughout the day, Captain Ed Farley will
provide boat rides aboard the skipjack H.M. Krentz, one of
the last commercial sailing vessels that continues to dredge oysters
in Maryland's Chesapeake waters. Skipjack rides will be free for
Museum members and available for a fee for non-members. There will
also be boat rides every half-hour aboard CBMM's replica buyboat
Mister Jim, as well as tonging demonstration aboard the Museum's
replica Smith Island skiff, Volunteer.
At OysterFest, children enjoy their own Kidstown, a tent filled
with educational and fun activities that help them get to know the
crassostrea virginica and how important the bivalve is to the Chesapeake
Bay. Both the Museum's outdoor campus and indoor interactive exhibits
offer a wonderful opportunity for children and adults alike to climb
aboard replica vessels and explore first-hand the lives of local
watermen.
Admission to OysterFest, which includes general admission to the
Museum, is $13 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $5 for individuals
aged 6-17. Museum members and kids aged 5 and under are admitted
free. All food provided is an additional cost. OysterFest will be
held rain or shine.
For more information about OysterFest, please contact the Museum
at 410-745-2916 or visit their website at www.cbmm.org. For more
