About the Program
The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum Community Sailing Program is
one of the Museums most successful and long standing programs.
For the past ten years, CBMM has encouraged students to feel comfortable
in the water while providing public access to the Bay at a time
when most sites where youth can get out on the water are becoming
privately owned. In addition to teaching maritime skills and seamanship,
the program provides students with experience and confidence. It
instills an appreciation of wind and water as a way of life integral
to local history. Recently, CBMM has been collaborating with other
service organizations and school districts, including the YMCA of
Talbot County and St. Michaels Middle/High School, to create an
innovative new programs enjoyed by diverse participants.
